Sometimes you start something that you can’t finish, can’t control:

LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The anger is getting raw at Republican rallies and John McCain is acting to tamp it down. McCain was booed by his own supporters Friday when, in an abrupt switch from raising questions about Barack Obama‘s character, he described the Democrat as a “decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States…..”
Palin started this one week ago at her rallies one week ago, whipping crowds into a frenzy. It quickly reached the point that some individuals have yelled “Traitor!” in reference to Obama, and “Kill him!” when Ayer’s association with Obama was mentioned. Astonishingly, Sarah Palin has just continued with her speech, not pausing to admonish the crowd. That first time, that was when McCain should have said something to Palin, should have told her to change her tactic, and then HE shouldn’t have used the same approach.
This is beyond ugly. The angry mob is rummaging around in the garage looking for Granddad’s pitchfork and looking for matches for the torches.
The Secret Service only began to investigate the “Kill him” comment in Florida after the Washington Post ran an article about it, and today they announced that they can’t find evidence that the person who shouted it was serious. They probably couldn’t figure out who shouted it.
I’m 58. I’ve already watched us bury too many assassinated political figures. I do not want to see it happen again. Ever. To any candidate.
