I just got off the phone with a nice lady who was very ill-informed about the organization she was calling on behalf of, the Campaign to Stop Illegal Immigration, which is headed by William Greene and funded by RightMarch, another of Greene’s organizations. It’s a PAC, that nasty sort of amoeba-like organization that can campaign on behalf of a candidate while claiming not to support any of them.
I have steam coming out of my ears. It wasn’t just that they wanted money from me, but the lady then whispered into my shell-like ear that Hilary is in favor of amnesty for illegals aliens (surely that counts as a double bogey-man) but she couldn’t give me a citation, couldn’t tell me when and where Hilary declared this. Her response was “the lawyers checked it”.
Right. That worked well for the Swift Boaters, too; they were believed because “they wouldn’t dare say such things unless the lawyers had checked it?”
I pointed out the Swift-Boating of not just John Kerry were lies, but also the attacks on John McCain as well as their attacks on George H. W. Bush, and just how useful the idea of lawyers checking the facts had been in those instances. She didn’t know they had trashed McCain, actually attacked him because he had been a POW, and was truly shocked when I told her why one of the people in this organization went after the senior Bush and what was said about him. Claimed that when he parachuted out of his plane during WWII that he actually abandoned his navigator to die. Terrible lies, all of them.
Now, Hilary may or may not be in favor of amnesty, I don’t know. I’m far more concerned about enforcing the laws prohibiting employers from hiring them, but when I pointed out that she should check on W’s attitude about amnesty for illegals she had no idea that he had proposed a guest worker program. How can you put someone like this on your phones? How can you afford such a clueless person to make these calls? Is it that the calls were being made to registered Republicans over the age of 50, and they just expect us all to nod our heads and write a check to them without questioning their facts or asking just where they get their money?
I guess the point of this rant is that the phone calls are starting, and right now there is a misinformation campaign that sounds like: oh-my-god-did-you-know-that-they-can-vote-if-they-check-the-box-on- their-drivers-license-application-and-they’re-taking-our-jobs-and-Hilary-supports-amnesty-for-them???!!!!
We don’t license illegal immigrants in California.
I asked her if she had ever met any illegals. I have. They don’t tend to vote; they tend to hide. If any vote, the number would be so insignificant as to be meaningless, but this bogeyman is useful when you’re trying to get money out of silver-haired men and women who are poorly informed (thank you Fox News).
