Mr opiejeanne has the flu so we couldn’t go anywhere for the 4th. Realizing this, both contractors showed up this morning to knock the kitchen into working order: Esteban came and sealed the grout, and Bryan hooked up the stove for me.
This is the range we bought four years ago when we moved into this house. It’s nothing too fancy but it works well and is self-cleaning. All of the other appliances have been replaced: new sink, faucet, garbage disposal and dishwasher. The old ones were shot.
So, the first meal I cooked was barbecued pork ribs, caramelized onions and a very small serving of fried potatoes (both home grown) corn on the cob, and fresh fruit. We have leftovers for tomorrow because we both are eating about half as much as normal. He’s losing weight, the rat, and I’m not.
Outside it sounds like WWIII right now. Disneyland is celebrating as are a lot of the neighbors, despite the law against personal use of fireworks. This is a dry year, no sense in taking a chance on burning down the place. We got less than 25% of our normal rainfall this year. The City Hall web page has an article about how to squeal on your neighbors if they have so much as a sparkler. From the sounds of things tonight, the cops have their hands full.
Just as long as we don’t take a direct hit on our shake roof from a bottle rocket, I’m good.

At Last! Looks very good!
We had record rainfall in June, the most since records have been kept. Flooded many parts of the state. Oddly too, Hull and other parts of England where my wife spent most of her life are flooded also.
I hope you are on high ground. I have several other friends in Ok who are all keeping their feet dry.
We got 3″ of rain this year, normal is slightly above 12″. There were no wildflowers in the high desert because they got less than 2″ this year; normal for the area is 6″ over three months span.
